Nope not one tiny bit of Akita in that sweet girl.
(Part of reply is in quoted text, sorry!) Amazing! She is a purty one! Probably just as well, Akitas can be challenging as pets. Great if you're hunting bears!

Now you Akita lovers, don't flame me. I didn't say they don't make awesome pets, I'e met and handled some amazing ones. Just said they CAN be challenging! ;)

Poor little guy. Everything is big and new and scary and confusing all at once.
Yes! But he is game and courageous. I like him better all the time!

I am really glad he found you and you him.
Thanks, us too. More on this later....

These first few weeks though. :th

Yabbut.... he is housetrained.... :wee has his shots.. is noodled! Doesn't even look at the cats OR the chickens!!! .. how many fingers do I have left to count on? Lol. No complaints here. He's fitting in just fine.

How old is he again?
Hopefully he will calm with some acclimation.
That 'kid' looks like just the person to help take care of that.

16 mo., @aart. The Kid is 13. But I'll tell you why this is a match made in heaven. The Kid is ADHD and a little autistic. Add to that our isolation out here. He has no social contacts outside of school with kids his own age. Thank God, he loves to read, but he needs interaction with a living being other than his grandparents. We're a couple of fuddy-duddies! Booo-ring! This dog - not just "a" dog, as in "any" dog, is just what he needs. And I already have Gracie. This dog needs HIM. This dog needs lots of hands-on, petting, stroking, cuddling, loving. And so does This Kid. This kid, who can't bear to be touched. This dog will break those barriers for this kid. Look back at that pic of the Kid and the dog. What do you see? Touching. Cuddling. Stroking. THIS dog. THIS kid.

Thank You, Jesus.

She is pretty. :p
I will 100% agree that some dog breeds are best with experienced handlers. :D
I don't mind the more challenging breeds....but then I have about 30 years of multiple dogs experience too.

You making me get all misty here! What a great match!
Seriously I mean that. For some special reason kids with needs will let a special dog in where a human is not allowed.
It looks like he is already breaking new ground. :D

I have been looking on line for another Sheltie, and found one. Not a puppy. This neutered male is 16 months old and his story is that he belongs to an older couple that feels they can't fairly meet his needs. I think there may be health issues. In the couple, not the dog. He is young and active.

The connection is through PuppyFinders. Has anyone done business with them, or have any knowledge or opinions of them?

I will say that the cost is extremely reasonable. We have been exchanging emails. The distance is considerable but they are willing to meet us half way, about a 4-hour drive for both parties.

My Sheltie, a 10-yo spayed Sheltie, is slowing down a bit with arthritis and has a (hopefully benign) tumor that probably needs to be removed soon due to its location. Realizing that I won't have her forever, I started thinking about ... well... getting her an "apprentice" and making sure I won't be without a Sheltie when The Time comes, even though, hopefully, she may have several good years left. The new dog will also make a companion for our boy who at the moment has literally nobody but us. Me and DH.

Anyway, I was wondering what, if anything, y'all might be able to tell me about PF.com. Thanks.

Back in 2015 I found my Pembroke Welsh Corgi through PuppyFind. We did not have him shipped to us though. They were about 2 hrs away so we drove to him and saw what conditions he was kept in, etc. Overall I have had a good experience, but I do remember speaking with some other people on there that were clearly scammers; speaking broken English, requesting money before even sending us pictures and paperwork, etc. I have also been told to be aware of puppy mills, which is another reason why I'm glad we were able to go see his living conditions and pick him up in person.
