Has anyone used this heated waterer?

Has anyone used this heated waterer before? I've looked on a few sites, and this one looks like the best deal for its size [3 gals]

That is the water heater we use in the run. It works great. The only issue we have with it is you have to turn it upside down to fill, then attach the base and flip back over again with a little spillage. We use a metal fount on a metal base heater in the henhouse...

I used two of them last winter and they worked extremely well. I would suggest practicing to master inverting them before winter. Once you master the technique it's quite easy.

Has anyone used the heated base by Farm Innovators? I was shocked to see the directions said "for indoor use" and NOT to use with an extension cord. Where do they think we keep these chickens?

Perhaps I should return the one I bought and get this model instead since the extension cord is an option.

I have used this waterer for two winters now and i love it. Not the easiest to fill but works great does not get HOT! I use a 3 gallon gas can(new-clean) to fill the waterer up. I only have one now for my 10 hens, dont know if thats enough room or not but it works. We ran the extension cord to the plug on the bottom of the waterer through a pvc pipe so the cord wouldnt be exposed to nosey chickens.

I have 2-1 gallon ones that are heated "dog bowls" I use those and they work great!

That does remind me of a story my father tells about growing up on a Vermont farm. When he was a boy, they lived in a house that didn't have central heating. He'd wake up on a winter morning and the water in the toilet would be iced over. Brrrr!

My father (who is only 70) lived in a house w/no central heat too..or indoor plumbing! His older sister would complain that the baby sister(3 yrs old at the time) would crawl out of the shared bed,just pee on the floor and get back in bed. By morning the pee would be frozen, and the older sis would slip and slide out of bed! lol My, times have changed Their chickens weren't spoiled like mine, but often ended up as Sunday dinner
