The nearest feed store to me carries Wendlands. I bought their scratch today but haven't tried their laying pellets/crumbles. The cost per 50 lb. bag is $13.99. I've been paying more and driving further for what I'm using now.

I'll revive this thread with some input. Although we are new to laying hens my brother has had them for over a year. He uses the "Wendland's 20% Egg Makers Crumbles" as the main feed, and supplements with Scratch/Oyster shells.

The quality of his eggs are insane as compared to others in the area, including the person that originally gave the hens to my brother. His hens produce eggs with rock hard shells, fire orange-red yokes and very firm egg whites. Never saw eggs like this before. Based on his results, for now I'll be feeding the same thing - just got our first 2 hens this morning!

Just FYI...
