So, I've been doing some research and have learned about the California Gray and California White chicken. I've been thinking and I would possibly like to do something similar.

I currently have a buff Orpington cockerel and am hoping to get some buff Leghorn hens. I was thinking about doing the California white process, but with buff chickens instead.

I am hoping to get the docile nature and bigger body of the Orpington, but also have the prolific egg laying of the Leghorn.

Would this work? Any suggestions?

Sounds like you want a buff Minorca. You can cross the two mentioned breeds and you will get an in-betweener with white legs. Its ability to lay will be improved every year that you only breed from the best laying hens.
