I am a Jr. in HS and took the ACT in December. Tonight my mom got a call and the man said his name was Greg and that I had checked something on the ACT and he was going to send us some study cd's. My mom said "Hold on, what are you sending?" And he said "listen maam, you're being rude." Now my mom doesn't put up with crap, especially when she didn't do anything to deserve it so she said "No, YOU listen..." and he hung up on her. She answered the phone on the first ring, so no name or number showed up on the caller id.

We really don't understand what happened. I didn't check anything on the ACT saying I wanted to recieve study materials and I'm not even sure there was a box to check for that. What do you think happened?

I think someone got hold of a sign-up list somewhere, which they should not have been able to do, and is using that list to solicit people. Good for your mom! (and hope you did great on your early ACT!)

im in muhlenberg county, ky.. im a junior in h.s too. haha..
but.. naw its never happened to me.
i havent even pondered taking th SAT or ACT yet, but i gues our schools will do it

ACT records of who took the test are accessible to colleges and just about anyone who wants to see them. He probably is one of those outfits that will send you something you don't want, on a free trial of course, then charge you a fortune for them. It's a scam I've seen before here at our high school. Steven took his ACT last month, I'll probably get that call too. If you get any packages you aren't expecting mark them return to sender and don't even open it. What they do is send it out, then send you a bill. You can tell them you sent it back and they'll deny getting it and keep on billing you. There is a box on the ACT test that asks for your social security number, do you remember if you wrote down your number? We tell the students to NEVER put their SS number on there, it is NOT required. If you did put it down, what might happen is when the box is not paid for, they will try and bill you, when you don't pay they will file an unpaid claim on your credit report, so watch it very carefully. If you get any mail that looks like a bill in your name, open it, read it, and make sure it isn't from whoever that man was representing. Make a note of when the call came, the time it came, and if you can remember anything at all about him, you may need to fight this later. Tell your school counselor or test representative IMMEDIATELY!!!! They may be trying this on several students.

I do not remember if I wrote my SSN on the test or not, but I probably did since the woman giving the test said to put it on there. We kinda figured by the way he acted it wasn't on the up and up, and I think he said something about a free trial.

I took the plus writing test and was kind of mad when I got there. There were two women giving the test, one was the Home EC teacher and the other was a sub turned atendance lady. They really didn't know what they were doing and I figured they would put a teacher in the plus writing room who knew what to do. They even talked during the test and during the writing part they stood right in front of me and griped beacuse no one was pre-writing using the "form" they have been trying to push on us. In my study books, it actually says NOT to prewrite too.

I did okay on the ACT. I got a 25. I didn't study at all before taking it the first time, just went in blind so I'm proud of what I got. We can take it again for free next month, and I've got some study books so hopefully I can get it up to 29 or 30. That's my goal anyway.
