Hatch-a-long, set March 1, hatch March 21/22

viber_image_2022-03-19_11-41-17-889.jpg

Two little chickies. One could be Golden Sebright, other one could be Mille Fleur D'uccle...

Came home to 5 chicks bopping around! Moved 4 to brooder and left 1 in the incubator to fluff up. Hurried to get the broken shells out too to give the rest more space.
I can see 4 pips but there could be more.

They blend in so much with the wood shavings in a picture
Two are blonde (One has feathered legs).
One is blonde with faint chipmunk stripe.
Two blonde with light color chipmunk stripe.

The faint chipmunk is probably a boy, yeah?
I honestly have no idea. The eggs were all mixed up from everyone. I'm kind of expecting red self/Columbian and buff self/Columbian. Barred if the Bielefelder is the sire.
The buff brahmas seem to have lacing going on so any Columbian or lacing from them too. And since everything is hatchery stock, are they even homozygous for feathered legs?
The FR hens are a mystery because they aren't meant to be bred from but I'm expecting mostly the same from them.

I'm taking this as a practice run and it will tell me more about the genes I'm dealing with.
I've split the flock now. So my next hatch will be more informative too.

Just had another hatch. Blonde, can't tell solid or stripe yet.
4 or 5 pipped right now. It seems like the recent eggs that were dated those last couple days before setting are the ones hatching first.

3 drying off now! 18 to go :jumpy

I've seen a few hatching now. Check mark or low hasn't seemed to make a difference so the ones with more weight loss at lockdown haven't been too much I guess.

I got an egg peeping at me! It was hard to be at work all day and wonder. And I think I’ve got two pips! Phew…I was waiting for signs of life. Just my luck they will hatch while I’m sleeping.
