Hatch-Along - putting some eggs in the bator for a march hatch

I am going to join you guys. This will be my first hatch. We will be setting 12 silkie eggs tomorrow.

The bator is on and stabilizing. And I pick up my eggs for a breeder just down the road tomorrow.

Exciting!!

Possible bad news for my eggs.

I thought my incubator was stabilized, but the Texas weather has been CRAZY lately causing our AC to turn on and off at random times. Apparently my incubator does not stay stable through fluctuating indoor temps. Hopefully I will be able to get it stable again!

Hope u get it stable .. my buttons should hatch out soon. I pulled a dozen eggs out of the bator that werent fertile .. hopefully the rest do better. Lol ...

ok its not the best pick, but does anyone think this egg is looks good. That spot wasn't there when I placed it in the incubator.None of the eggs had any changes at 5 days, except this one. These were only a test run of store-bought farm eggs but tommorow I pick up my NN crosses. Thanks for any info.

insanity,

In my opinion it does not look fertile. All the eggs I have candled at 5 or so days have a spiderweb of blood vessels running around the shell. I will tr and get a picture of some of my eggs tonigh so you can see what it looks like.

I candled some of my eggs, and every one I looked at was fertile!!!!! I am very excited.

Thanks, pictures would be great. I kept it going just in case.Tonight I will set my first real eggs (6 NN ) that came straight from the hens about 6 hrs ago. I'm sure they will have a better result than my test batch.

im in with you...i set 91 coturnix quail on 2/18...candled and from what i can see 47 are looking good...good luck to everyone

I only just saw this thread.

I am IN! We set a dozen for our first attempt in a Hova-bator 1632 still air in the PM of 10th Feb.

At day 7 candle, we thought we had 4 infertile or early death, last night was day 14 candle, and we were right about the first 5. We removed them and replaced them with a glass jar of water (to help stabilise the internal temps with so few eggs). We cracked open the 5 non starters and all looked like backyard eggs, no blood, veins, spots or streaks, so we assume they were never fertile to begin with.

The other 7 look to ave progressed to a point where candling is near blackness, we did see some of the embryo's moving last night which was very cool.

A couple of days until lock down and then we can see the fruits of our labour come to greet us!

BTW, we set;
3x RIR - 3 still in.
3x GLW - 0 still in
3x LSUS - 2 still in
3x ALORP - 2 still in

My quail babies are hatching the first one is out pics in the morning when the others hatce trying to get up I had to put water in heavyweight I've been gone two days so I pulled the one out and have him in a little sock nest under some heat.
