Hatch, and then what?

I have seven quail eggs in the incubator that should hatch in 2 days. I have heard that all you do is leave them in the incubator until they are dry and then you can put them in their outdoor coop. Is this true? How much water do they get when they hatch? What kind of food do you use? I guess I should have thought of this earlier.

I believe that once they hatch and dry in the incubator, they must be moved to a brooder until they get stronger. Then they can go in a coop. I am no expert though so perhaps someone who knows more will come along soon.

Definitly move them to a brooder, not outside. They will need a heat lamp. You should feed a gamebird feed, no less than 24% protein. You will have to watch the water, make is hallow so they do not fall in a drown.

Yes you can leave them in the incubator for 24 hours without food and water but then you have to put them in a brooder which has heated to about 95 degrees reducing the temperature each day as the chicks get older and depending on the outside temperature the chicks can be put outside after two to three weeks old. Food in the brooder should be finely ground and at least 28 percent protein and water should be provided in such a way that the chicks can't drown in it. Good luck on the hatch.
