I got tracking numbers today from two BYC sellers Cindiloohoo (Delawares) and Bargain (BCM), with one more still to come - CottageGarden for some Blue/Black Ameraucanas.

Incubator is up and running and the post office has been informed.

I'm full of pent-up excitement, but have nothing to do!!

I can't believe that the last batch is 6wks already. They grow so quick!

Also, I say I'm excited now, but wait 'till the eggs have been in the bator for a few days - right back to the boring watching part.

I'm due about the 28th/29th. I stuck in some of our silkie eggs, and a couple of our blue EE eggs. It's mostly silkie eggs though. I wanted to test the new hovabator I got before, I get some eggs in May. So far it's running well

Of course the day after I stuck the silkie eggs in the incubator, our silkie went broody.

So she is currently trying to hatch golf balls, while we are redoing an old pump house into a second chicken coop. She will have to wait until we can get some youngsters moved into the other coop, to sit on eggs.

Cindiloohoo's Delawares arrived today - all eggs were safe and sound and looked fantastic with candling.

Can't wait to get the others and start the clock!

Good news

I havent tried shipped eggs yet. Just done my own, or got some from a breeder near by. I have mostly silkie eggs in, and a couple of blue eggs from our hen Sara. I'm on day 5, and haven't candled yet. The hovabator we found on craigslist is working great so far. The guy bought it in a lot of stuff, and didn't know what it was. It looked like it had never been used, and was only missing a liner. So far it's been holding the humidity and temps great. I've noticed this hovabator has been holding the humidity better then the other hovabator I used.

The PO is holding the Marans box for pickup - so only one more (Ameraucanas) to come before they can go in the bator!!!

Hey Nancy!

Just got done unpacking and candling the eggs - Yay!

They arrived mostly safe and sound - a few of the bubble-wrap 'packages' were loose and deflated and three of the eggs were cracked.

The first one I'm going to toss, I don't think I can repair that. I'm hoping to cover the dent of #2 in wax, but there are cracks all the way around the egg so I'm not optimistic. Egg #3 is just a web of hairline cracks that I'm *hoping* I can just stick in the bator with a lot of crossed fingers.

What do you think? Would the insurance kick in for something like this? Should I open a claim with the post office?

Thanks again,
Liz
