This will be my third hatch and I am still confused. I have 14 eggs, all looked good on day 10. I am confused about one thing. I understand that after day 18 the eggs are not to be moved. So what are you supposed to do after the first few eggs hatch and the chicks are bumping and knocking the other eggs all around the bator? Is it better to get the early hatchers out and risk the temperature and humidity variations or leave them in with the unhatched eggs?

This is why I hatch in egg cartons. Cut away the mountains between the cups and the bottoms of the cups for air circulation and put your eggs in large end up. Leave your chicks in the hatcher until all have hatched [or 36-48 hours, whichever comes first]. If you HAVE to open the bator during lockdown to remove chicks, do so as quickly and efficiently as possible in order not to lose heat/humidity. Also a newbie but these are things I have learned.

put them small end down in a egg carton. punch holes in the bottom cut the flaps off and trim the sides a little. they will hatch and fall out un hurt and that way they wont be playing soccer with rest the others
