Hatch Day!!

LG?

Of course it was an LG!
They can't help it!

106-107 isn't 100% deadly, but it sure bumps down the hatch rate.

Thanks LG...."You're welcome Joe"!

Good luck on your hatch, and don't try to bust them out! Just let them hatch.

Sorry for the no reply - I was dealing with some internet issues.

I got the temp down pretty quick but it has done it twice since. Nothing has hatched but I still hear chirping every now and then - are they all goners? 5 had made about a 1/4 inch strip out but never got out (yesterday morning). I am about to try the float test on the rest but I'm pretty sure I've got zero hatching. Sad but they weren't even mine. They were my boyfriend's.

I asked him specifically not incubate anything because i didn't have time to baby sit. He got called away for a job the day before the temp spike. So, yes I am upset that none have hatched but it was mostly because they were not my responsibility, not my 'bator, and it still feels like my fault.

le sigh.

Float tested, all but 3 came back as "viable" but I am still doubtful.

I will keep the 'bator on for another day or so but ... then its at the ending point.

Let it ride for the full 21+ days. A late term high temp. spike isn't 100% deadly. If you have proof of life, then keep the temp as stable as you can, and keep the humidity as high (over 55%) as you can without plugging up all the air holes in your bator.

Coturnix can hatch as early as 16 days, all the way to 21 days. Please check your humidity level.

I'm still wishing you luck, but wishing you patience most of all.

X2 on the patience. I am with Joe. Same thing happened to me. LG crappy spikes. I sincerely beleive that I should have given them more time after breaking open to look....at day 22 when I was bagging the mission. Nearly 24 eggs lost on that try. BUT I honestly think that the spikes went both ways and slowed things then got hot, slowed things, then got hot. Like Joe sais patience....lets wait and see if you can pull some life out of this bator.

Sending positive your way....

Tonya

Thanks so much for the advice and well wishes. We had to end it yesterday because of traveling but it turns out yesterday was day 21 anyhow. I will keep all this information in mind next time. Like I said - I wasn't even supposed to be responsible for these eggs and I had never worked with that incubator before. Sad but I let it hold go as long as logistics would allow and kept the humidity up with the temp as steady as I could.

On a positive note - my hens are at full laying capacity now!
