Just went through my 2nd hatch. Out of 40 , 8 not fertile. 14 hatched and doing well. 10 dead in the shell fully developed and the rest under developed, lost along the way.

I have a hova-bator w/ auto turn and auto temp. humidity was 54-58 for 21 days and up to 63 through hatch. Eggs were left in the turner until day 21. some had pipped in turner. Was that the cause of so many dead in the shell? Do I take out the turner on day 18 or 19 . Do you stop turning then at 18 days?

Any Ideas very appreiciated. Wiredbird

Hello :frow and Welcome To BYC! Sorry about the bad hatch. You might want to post in the Incubating forum for help https://www.backyardchickens.com/f/5/incubating-hatching-eggs and this is a nice article on figuring out hatch problems https://www.backyardchickens.com/a/egg-failure-to-hatch-diagnosing-incubation-problems Did you candle the eggs or weigh them to check aircell size? I would wonder if your humidity was a little high during incubation and 63% is a little low for hatching ... the eggs should not be turned after about day 18 so you should be taking the turner out at that time.

Thank you for your response and the article. Think I did more than a couple things wrong. Remembering what day it is for a start. Will start collecting eggs and try again.
