Does anyone know if there will be any ill effects if I move eggs from one incubator to another, I have the temps synced but I can only get the humidity within 7%, the one they are coming out of is 30% and the one they are going into is 37%. I want to do this because the one that runs with the higher humidity is better for hatching out and raising the humidity for the last week. We are in FL so getting a low humidity is sometimes difficult.

Well, with this hatch I did move eggs from one Bator to the other, I'll let you know how they turn out.

I am hatching dark eggs (olive etc) and I can't get my humidity below 40%

Anyways, both Cochin eggs from my order quit around day 10, which is why I ordered another half dozen from eBay. Totally justified. I need another round of eggs to arrive on hatch day from my first batch.

In an attempt to use Chicken Math for balance, instead of excess, I was mulling aloud that I might want to rehome one of my Red Stars, since they are kind of bullies. They must have heard me.

This morning, I found a monster egg that one of them laid. It's the size of a peahen egg! I think they are trying to be extra useful so they can stick around.

Day 20, first pip mark today on one egg, a little chirping coming from eggs.

So as I sit here staring at bator I am thinking, about all the things we do to keep everything just right in our incubators.
I am thinking that when my hen last sat on eggs one day it was 75 out with 40% humidity, and then we had a temp plunge which for south west FL where I am at is rare and it was 42 degrees and less than 25% humidity, and by the last week she was on the eggs it was in the 80's with high humidity until the very last day she hatched them and it was back to 60's with low humidity. I am thinking what keeps the membranes from shrink wrapping the chick when there is low humidity under mama hen? What is the difference between mama hen getting off the nest for 5 minutes when it is cold out and me opening the incubator to turn eggs or add water? They both result in loss of heat and humidity right?
The brooder is so warm, no drafts, and all that, but the natural chickies are out from under mom on day 2 pecking around in 60 degrees and they are fine.

I guess I am spending too much time pondering these things...when I really should be outside cleaning the turkey coop..

I lost my first girl, Skye, today. So sad. It's very windy here and she ended up getting out of my run some how. My Doberman got her. She was alive when I got to her, but died on the way to the vets. I'm so sad. She was the first one I hatched, 19 weeks old.
