hatched a chick w/ one eye, slight crooked beak.

I have a silkie like that..she has a crossed beak and although she does have an eye, it is bad and either teary or crusty most of the time. I don't bother trying to keep it clear anymore, I did when she was a chick...but nothing helped so I threw her in with the others figuring she'd either make it or she wouldn't. Well she is a year old now, and lived through a very harsh winter to my surprise! We'll see if she broods for me this spring...who knows what to expect. She does't get any special treatment...well, once this winter I brought her in overnight because both her eyes crusted over and she would have died in the corner, she could't see to find food or water...but that is it.

Had one hatch just like that last week. She is eating and drinking well and doing great. The beak will get worse the missing eye no prob. If she lives you will have to periodically trim her beak. Its not hard to do. She is in with the other chicks and so far no prob but when the top of the beak get to far over will trim it back some but the beak will grow just like a fingernail so trimming will have to be done every now and then.
