Meet Mufasa. She was hatched inside a diaper box in my garage.
I had a broody hen, who set and hatched a clutch. At some point, another hen laid an egg in her nest and I didn't realize it. When broody was done hatching, one egg showed signs of life. But I had no idea how far along it was. I couldn't bring myself to toss the egg, but I also couldn't afford to buy an incubator.
So instead, DIY that stuff! I lined a diaper box with aluminum foil, put a towel on the bottom and placed a bowl of water inside the box. Placed that box inside my brooder with the heat lamp. I rotated that egg 3 to 4 times day. Until one day, I noticed it was close to hatching. I incubated that egg inside a box for 11 days.
Mufasa hatched the night before I left for spine surgery. I took that as a good one for my surgery. Anywho, she's now a week old and we just got her a few friends. I just wanted to share her crazy hatch story.
