I want to get some brown leghorns to add to my flock. I like the ones that are single comb brown leghorns listed on Mcmurray's website. I have noticed that other hatcheries have dark brown, light brown, and danish. Is there a big difference in the types listed above, or is it the same breed that the hatcheries give different names to?
The type of leghorn I want is brown, with pink breast feathers. So will a danish, light brown or dark brown have those qualities?

We ordered some Rose Comb Brown Leghorns from McMurray and did not have good luck with them. We've had excellent results with other chicks from McMurray, but the Leghorns did not do well at all. Some were dead when we got them and the others mostly all died one right after another. We have one pullet left now. She is a couple of months old and the others have all been gone since soon after they arrived.

Other chicks that came in the same order did much better. I can't help but to feel that it was something with the leghorns. Ours were rose combs, though, not the type you are thinking about getting.

If you want a picture of my one remaining pullet, I will be happy to post it here tomorrow.

If you don't mind posting a photo when you have the chance, I would love to see it!

Maybe it was just the rose comb ones or maybe we just had bad luck. I don't want to discourage you from ordering from McMurray Hatchery. We ordered other chicks from them and every single one of them lived. In fact, our Australorps are 5 months old and every one of them is healthy and still alive (all from McMurray.) I will post a picture of my pullet tomorrow. I assume they look the same as a single comb except for the comb, but I may be wrong.

One thing I noticed is that she is calm compared to other leghorns we have had. We had some White Leghorns a while back that were really flighty and crazy. I gave them to a relative because I just didn't like them. The brown leghorn is a little calmer. I can actually catch her and hold her, unlike the others.
