Do you think that my boody Part. Rock will take a few hatchery chicks if I put them with her? She hatched a lone peep around 5 days ago and continues to set on the rest of the eggs but I'm loosing hope that any of them will hatch out. They may not even be fertile 'cause she's been stealing from the other nest boxes.

I've read in Harvey ussery's book that he does that. As long as the broody hen has been sitting for a couple weeks its typically successful. But you have to watch her at first because she might reject them. I'm not speaking from experience though. He said he removes the eggs and places the quiet newly arrived chicks under her.

My mom has had success with this for years. My silkie went broody for the first time last month, and I tried putting 2 chicks with her but she hadn't been broody enough, so I gave up. She was still broody after 4 weeks, so I tried again with 1 2 day old salmon favorelles chick that I put under her in the middle of the night in her broody spot (the egg box of all places) and she took it just fine. I moved them that next evening to a large dog crate in the house because mynon-broody barred rock was trying to take the chick. They have been a happy little family for a week now. (as for the other two chicks, they are in a different plastic tub in the house as well.) Good luck. Just don't move her from her original broody spot until after putting the chicks with her late at night. Try not to disturb her too much when you place them. Use very little light, and do one at a time. It should work out just fine.

I'm going to give it a go then and see what happens. Thanks for the replys.
