Songster
I'll guess we'll have to see. She's pretty! She's larger than some of them but definitely not as large as Lava and I have an EE in there that's HUGE and almost the size of Lava, so JoJo isn't as big as either of them, and I would agree not a meat bird.I agree.
Some blues are darker than others, so I think that one might be a dark blue.
I'm not finding anything that matches, in either hatchery catalog.
Langshans-- neither hatchery lists blue.
French Marans-- neither hatchery lists blue.
Both of those could have the lightly feathered feet and the single comb.
Hoovers Olive Egger "We have one line that is a cross of Americanas and French Cuckoo Marans. With this hybrid, most of the females will be black but a few will come out blue."
That could provide the blue, and the lightly feathered feet, but would have a pea comb (but I'm seeing a single comb on the chick.)
Since she's lighter than the Buff Brahma, she is probably not any kind of meat bird (some hatcheries have a variety of meat hybrids with interesting traits.)
So maybe she's one of the egger-types that Hoovers has, and they didn't clearly describe all the options.
Or maybe she's a new breed or variety that either Hoovers or McMurray is breeding, that isn't listed yet.
When she matures enough to lay eggs, that may help-- any shade of blue or green egg would mean an Easter Egger, even if we never figure out which hatchery or which name they would call her.
But for now, I'm puzzled too![]()
Kind of fun to have a guessing game. Since she's named she definitely stays. (We have to get rid of 6, 12 is the max I want to keep)
