Hatchery Hatch-a-long! : )

How exciting! I haven't ordered chicks through the mail before but plan on doing so in the future. I just love the "Dalmatian" project you are working on, Goldie is very pretty!

Thank you!

We JUST got the call that they are hear!!!!!!!!!!

They arrived, all of them healthy and loud. One was a little weak at first, but with some rest and warmth, and some water drops on his beak, he made a full recovery.
Our plan was to keep 5, so we found a wonderful home for the other 11.

I think this is a d'Uccle

Mottled Cochin

Possibility, a white silkie. She is one of our keepers

However, just a few minutes ago we lost one of our keeper sebbies. We gave them to our broody hen and she adores them and they adore her. They are so much happier then they were in the brooder all by themselves. They feel relaxed and watched over. But sadly, one got tangled in her silkie feathers and broke its neck. It was really, really sad. I feel really bad about it, like I could have done something. But I couldn't have, it was one of those accidents that you can't expect.

I'm glad the others are all doing so well.

Sorry about your loss :( but I'm glad to see pics of the new babies! They are all so darling! I'm hoping to add a few Sebrights to my flock next year.

So many people say they are delicate, but man they are the toughest little birds ever! I know it might just be the hatchery quality ones that are strong, since I hear they aren't bred as small, but my sebbies start acting like adults at day two and growing spurs at a week of age! They are so full of personality, can take to below 0 F temperatures, and still manage to be high in the pecking order with their tiny size. I have never lost a sebright to illness, even the one that came to us weak and barely hanging on made a full recovery.

I lost one of the five chicks I kept. It got tangled in its adopted momma's feathers and broke its neck. It was sad, but it was worth it to see them all so happy with a mother that could always be there for them, unlike I could. The other four are doing wonderfully.

I'll try to get some pictures.
