personally i find $35 a small price to pay in order to get exactly what sexes amd breeds you want.
this past couple months i bought straight run chicks a couple times, and ended up with sooooo many roosters that we had to cull because no one would take them even for free. i also ended up with a contagious respitory disease.
after all my experiences, i think the xtra price is now worth it from the hatchery.
i just placed my first order for ducklings straight from metzer farms. was able to choose exactly what colors and breeds i wantsd and got them sexed females.
they also have a gaurantee so if anything should go wrong or any are missexed i get a refund. my order doesnt arrive till wednesday. this seems like the easier way to go however .
since you can only have a few, i would order 5 or 6, and get what you want. started pullets in my area sell for 15-20$ so if you get an xtra or two you could easily make your money back.
