I’ve decided to go with cackle!

I bought from Cackle last year and didn't have any sexing issues but I did have the most health problems I'd ever had from a batch of chicks and I think it came down to poor genetics or unhealthy parents. My Appenzeller arrived missing a toe. I had a crested cream legbar that was off from the beginning and I put a ton of energy into saving. She ended up never being able to walk properly and with scissor beak. She had to be put down when she was about 9 months old from all her health problems. There was some other weirdness but I don't remember exactly what. I definitely don't want to scare you and my experience could have been a fluke but be sure to give your chicks a really good once over when they arrive.

This year I went with Meyer and the chicks seem to come from better stock but I think I have a lot of sexing errors.

By the way, Buff Orpingtons are awesome chickens! They are my favorites in my flock

I’m looking to get more chicks but I already have 2 cockerels. Are there any hatcheries you recommend that actually knows what they’re doing when it comes to sexing chicks. I’ve realized it’s not an easy thing but I’m wanting pullets

I had two chick orders this month, one from Ideal and one from McMurray! All chicks arrived alive and no deformities of any kind. Will keep fingers crossed on being sexed correctly!

Also ordered hatching eggs from Meyer. Very impressed with their packaging and ended up with 8 out of the 15 hatching successfully! Anything over 50% with shipped eggs I will call a win!

We bought from cackle a few months back and had a few problem babies as well. One had a cricked neck and Looked like a vulture when she walked. One never grew her adult feathers. Had feathers on her wings and fluffy baby fuzz everywhere else. Her and cricked neck were best friends and stuck to each other. And another that had some weirdness about her that we just couldn’t pin point. Unfortunately, before they hit 4 months, we had a dog attack that wiped all but 4 birds out. We started out with 22 so it was a devastating hit. We then ordered 25 from Hoover and they are thriving but EXTREMELY skittish. We hand raise as we want friendly ladies. Before being murdered, the ones from Cackle were really friendly and enjoyed being held. But the Hoover ones want nothing to do with us. We also purchased from Meyer and within the first 24 hours, 4 passed away. We did reach out to them and they have great customer service.

Order I had from Cackle had only one health issue and it was something they warned of with the Ameraucana chickens, one out of the 7 I ordered had cross beak. All the chicks I ordered sexed where accurate tho. They have a percentage for each breed they sell sexed for accuracy.

I also had an order fulfillment issue but it was something I was expecting as I ordered fairly close to end of season. They where out of black Ameraucanas.

The other issue was that one of the breeds I ordered got filled with another breed in the same color. Their customer service was amazing tho.
