I ordered the rainbow layers from McMurray two years ago. It's a great way to figure out what breeds you like! We got 3 Spangled Hamburgs, 2 white leghorns, 1 brown leghorn, 1 EE, 1 BO, 1 BA, 1 RIR, 1 SLW, and a Splash Andalusian.

I'd do it again to start a flock. We have a better idea of what we like now!


ETA: we split the order with another family, and I don't know what they got because we split them as chicks!

I got the call from the post office this morning but the lady said the box was not making any noise so i knew what i was going to find. I went and they did not make it. I order 26 they sent 25. I talked to them and they are going to reship next week.

I ordered the bantam surprise special, chicks are a week and a half old now. I did specify clean legged birds and I think I have a few japanese and some OEGB, and I got a polish

I ordered too early, it's still super cold here, so I did lose a few. The ones that made the trip are super healthy and spunky!

I ordered Ideal's bantam assortment special. I received them this morning. I ordered 25, and they sent 28, but so far four have died. Not sure why, they were normal and then just fell over.

Overall though, I am happy with them. They seem to be fairly good birds, and the feather leg ones are very well feathered. I only got one D'Uccle, which I really was disappointed about since I like them a lot, and it died. I got a lot of Brahmas, Cochins, some Old English Game, Japanese, some Cornish, and I'm not sure yet what else. It is a good variety of breeds and colors though; I think it was worth 99 cents each.

I got the Ideal Bantam Surprise special as well. They came last Friday Morning in the middle of the huge snow storm. I order 35 they sent 36, 5 were dead on arival and another 7 died a day later. Customer service was very good. They are sending out replacements this week. I was happy this many surived considering the weather.

FYI- I recieved 1 patridge silkie and 2 buff silkies, 3 or 4 cochins of various colors, a bantam buff orp, banatam brahma, that's all I can tell so far.

I ordered an autum special from Sandhill (25) I got 5 blue jersey giants,5 exchequer leghorns,5 black leghorns,5 mille fluer leghorns and 5 cuckoo marans I was very happy with it and am planning to order it again this year.

Several years ago I ordered the Top Hat Special, Murray McMurray I think. I got all polish, but a variety of colors. Seems to me I had more roos than hens, about 75/25 . I kept some, and sold some.

Two years ago I did the barnyard special where you get 2 geese, 2 ducks, 2 turkeys, and 10 hens. I did get 2 geese (boys), and 3 ducks (boys - 1 pekin, 2 cayuga), and 2 turkeys (boys - blue slate, bronze) and 11 red sex link hens. I ordered it again last year and got the same, but the hens were brown/black sex link. Might do that again this year, was sort of fun.

My bantam special from ideal to replace the shipment that none survived will be here in the morning. From what i saw in the last shipment from what i saw when disposing of them there was a good assortment.
