Hatchery... Which one?

For us we order chicks each year from McMurray.
True to breed. Credits or replacements are 5% above the order.
This years flocks of rsl and bsl were healthy and are thriving. Had a problem on shipping on our first order, but all were replaced within a week.
Customer service is excellent. We always talk to the same person when we need help so our operation and orders are "personalized".

I've bought mostly from Cackle, but they are 3 miles from my farm. I think that's the key, use the hatchery that's closest to you. That way the chicks travel a shorter distance. I do get Freedom Rangers from JM (in Penn). But, that's only because Cackle doesn't have them. Cackle has Frankenchix (Cornish Cross) but I won't buy them. We bought our layers & banties from them & will buy replacements if the banties can't raise enough replacements.

I have ordered from McMurray and really like them. I have also ordered from Welp Hatchery. I liked them to and they do not charge a shipping charge. I also ordered from Ideal and was not pleased. About 20% of the chicks developed a crossed beak and died at about 6 weeks old because they could not eat or drink good. I would buy from Welp again. Great looking chicks and all but 2 out of 55 lived!

Last year (my 1st year) I got all my chicks from feed stores and was very happy. I know that most of them get their chicks from the major national hatcheries. I let them deal with the shipping issues. I also can walk into the feed store and pick out the specific chicks I want. This year I will be getting about 1/2 my chicks from feed stores and the other 1/2 from a local breeder.

Thanks to everyones help on a hatchery, as I said this will be my first order so I just wanted to get some comments from the pros!

I wanted to try and order some Easter Eggers so I'm going to check with the closest hatchery to me which is probably Mt. Healthy and see if they have any of them. Then I may just go and pick them up as I can understand the extra stress on the birds in shipping. Thanks Again!
