I have bought from MPC and had a great time ordering chicks from them! And if you don't want to order from them, there is another hatchery called" Chickens For Backyards".

Happy-Hens

If you're ordering now and expecting to get eggs in Dec or January, you're going to be disappointed. I got my chicks in May, and I just got my first egg yesterday, out of 19 hens!

That is not completely true. There is literately 100's of hatcheries and there will be a few to get immediate chicks from this very day for next week delivery if you call key hatchery's and do not want hard to get breeds or special ornamental birds. If you want Straight run (male & female mix) or you want sexed pullets for a .50 more premium you can get that also. Again I say call a few of the ones listed on the list above in this post like;

Mypet chicken
Meyers
Ideal
McMurry
MT Healthy
Just to mention a couple. Look at the list and first find a hatchery that is closer.

If you're ordering chicks by mail in fall/winter, you're going to want that box full. Ideal would send you ~25 birds even if you ordered 10 (they add unwanted cockerels for warmth). SO, if you want them now and you want to start a small egg business with a colorful assortment, I'd order Meyer's Rainbow Layer assortment and then pick my favorite 10 out of the 25 or 26 they send, selling off the extra pullets. At least those will sell for something -- cockerels you'd have to feed only to give away. You'd do well pricewise this way and the chicks would have a good shot at surviving the trip.
