Hatch day was the 1st and chicks have been hatching since a day before on the 30th. Today my friends eggs started hatching. 3 hatched fine with no problems but these last 5 have swollen heads. One with a severely swollen head died just after hatching and the others are alive and doing good but have swollen heads. All my chicks, even the ones hatching today are fine.
Anyone know why their heads are like that?

I had some bloated swollen chicks from too much humidity I think but not ones with just heads. Maybe it was the humidity? Can you post pics.

I thought about taking pics but I disposed of the chicks before I remembered to. The ones that survived are acting and looking normal now. I don't have a humidity...thing but thanks for the suggestion.

Sign: Swollen head and back of neck (exudative diathesis - increased capillary permeability).
Causes: Nutritional deficiencies -- vitamin E or selenium.

Definitely get a hygrometer. It'll save a lot of chicks.
Sorry for your loss, and that these babies came out like this.

I tried a new thermometer and the one I was using was actually reading 5 degree higher than the new one was. So they incubated at only around 95-96 degree. I've only lost a few and the rest are fine.
