i'm new to hatching, it's my first ever time, so I'm so so sorry if this is a stupid question!! we have a broody hen in a pen inside of our shop right now, and she has around a dozen eggs with her. two have hatched, and one is on the way. the first to hatch is doing great, absolutely awesome. it's a few days old now, and seems perfectly fine. however, the one that just 'hatched' today is NOT doing so great. I took it out of the egg myself, (hence the 'hatched' in quotation marks), because I had thought it got it's beak stuck where it couldn't peck the egg anymore, and i still firmly believe that. of course, when it got out, it was wobbly. obviously, it just hatched, that's normal. however, its been a few hours, it's already dried, peeping like crazy yet still practically unable to stand, let alone walk. it looks absolutely fine on the outside, but I can't help but think I hurt it or even possibly crippled it by taking it out of the egg. I was as careful as I could have been, I wasn't rough with it at all, but I think maybe I took it out too early? I didn't want to hurt it, and I definitely don't want it to die, but is it my fault? i should have been more patient. it's belly(?) looked swollen when it came out, aswell. did I kill my chick?

Usually if a chick can't hatch itself, there's a weakness or deformity.
Give it some time, it may just need to get used to having legs.
