I have 4 at this point with several cracked eggs. Still no pics. Wondering if it is ok to open the bator to take the dry chicks out or will it hurt the others?

I did, make it quick, and with clean hands...just open the edge and reach in carefully and fast, dont open it all the way...mine I opened 3 times....and it stayed at the same temp and humidity...I left the egg shells in until there done...so far so good... I wanna see pictures!!!!!

Ohmygosh-- I had some quail in the hatcher the other day, and by the time 10 hatched in less than 12 hours, they were BOWLING and playing HOCKEY with the other eggs! I HAD to take them out! and the "lively popcorn" is darned hard to catch coming out of my styrofoam hatcher, so I have to put the hatcher in the bathtub (block the drain!) when I'm trying to get them out, or they leap out onto the floor and run around! Very nerve wracking... In the tub, I can get them out and caught quickly enough that I don't lose temp or humidity in the hatcher. The only 3 eggs that didn't hatch look to be non-fertile.

Of course, you have to use your own best judgment as to how it will affect the ones left in your hatcher, but these guys were getting DESTRUCTIVE! They were running around pecking on other eggs and stuff...they rolled one chick's egg over onto where he was zipping...and he didn't make it. Don't know if they suffocated him or what.

I am not doing wwell... 1 pipped 2d ago never zipped, another same thing humidity was down this morning so I opened it up to add more 2h0 etc.the pipped one was dead the other one I opened and layed on the floor of the incubator closed it again.I can't understand why they die before making it out or even pipping. My humidity and temps have been pretty consistent,99-101 varies some with the temp of the day, humidity had been normal for the hatch but I locked down on tues.nite so had to add more h20 now.temp is back up as well as humidity. The pipped dead one had alot of yolk still there so why would he pip if he wasn't rready yet?The other one is still breathing on the bator floor he has to absorb some has a big belly but that usually goes away,so he sseems like he might make it.

Well we had 4 hatch and one eventually died.

We now have 4 black cooper marans. Considering the humidity spikes, power outages and our learning curve, I think we did well.

ok, getting ready to leave for dr. procedure...be gone most of the day, then home drugged I guess or hurting. Woke up this morning...have 6 in brooder....2 buffs in bator....2 zipping, and MY VERY FIRST DARK BABY...Im thinking it might be a Cuckoo Maran, not sure yet...the only other two I needed to hatch were RIRs and Cm...so maybe....

I posted pics. of my chickies in another forum and just copied and pasted them to see if I could get them in here without doing it the slow way. I will fix it if this does not work.

Here are the first pictures of my lil hatchlings !

These are the ones that have dried enough that I could take them out to keep them from stepping on the younger, wetter ones.
