Mama mallard laid 13 eggs by our pool, was injured & abandoned them. I think I got the remaining 9 that weren't broken within 24 hours & got an incubator. But I thought she laid her 13th egg & started sitting on Friday March 8. So Sat. April 6 should have been 28 days & hatch day, right? But today is Sunday & no pipping in sight :(
I will be SO sad if none make it. I have followed the temp & humidity recommendations & took out the auto egg turner 4 days ago. Is it possible they all died? I did take them out 2 days ago & candle each one to see what was going on - was this bad? Some look not good inside & some look solid with just an air pocket. I don't know what it's supposed to look like.

Hello, welcome to Backyard Chickens! :woot Congratulations for becoming part of the flock!
I'm Sorry to hear your mallard was injured. If the ducks weren't moving when you candled them, they might be dead. 24 hours is quite awhile without proper temperature and humidity. Leave them in there for a few more days and see if anything happens and hopefully a couple will hatch. :hugs

Welcome!
When you candled did you see any veins and or any movement?
I candled them about 2 weeks ago too & saw lots of veins & movement. The other day, I am fairly sure there was movement but a couple were totally dark with just like an air pocket at one end. Is that a good thing? Also a couple had dark areas not nearly the size of a duckling, so I'm not hopefull about those.

The ones that are fly dark might be good.
What you should see next/soon is what's called draw down.

Keep an eye on the air cell to see if it gets bigger/draws down towards the darkness.

Let me see if I can find a picture of this teal quick.

If they are getting ready to hatch then not seeing any movement is normal right now.
