hatching abandoned nest- help!

Hello and welcome to BYC - thanks for joining us. Please make yourself at home. Best of luck with your hatch.

This is a useful link of “How to” BYC guides to take a look at announcements-feedback-issues-guides.3. I’d suggest including your location using the guide in the link. You can use this link to contact members in your area - Find your State's thread.

Best wishes

I'm SO EXCITED!! I was about to give up hope because I thought the time had gone too long, but I was only guessing when she started sitting. Then this morning I heard faint peeping & saw one that had pipped! I thought it would be a day or so, but in about an hour after I saw it, it was out! Now he's peeping and walking all over the place in the incubator!! So adorable and I'm so happy. Now I just hope more come out soon. Now I have to read up on how long to leave him there before moving to under the light.

DO NOT OPEN THE INCUBATOR!!! Cant stress that enough, when the finish hatching then you can open it. :D
I know they have to dry out first right? I'm hoping there are more - have 7 more eggs, but one is turning reaaalllly dark and I'm afraid it may explode - would you open quickly to get that out???

I'm one to open the bator when they hatch..to snatch out the baby because I don't want the baby to knock the other eggs around, especially if they have pipped nice pips on top. Sometimes they have inside, you just can't see it. I've not had a problem. I've hatched for years. I don't mean to take away from those that don't, just putting my two cents worth in.

I waited over 24 hours from the first one hatching & no other pips yet - one egg was really darkening up so I opened it - the duckling looked fully developed but died. This is SO SAD. What did I do wrong? Stop turning them too soon? They weren't turned for 6 day - I thought they were due earlier than they were apparently. I'm really scared nothing else will hatch :(
