Hey all! So recently I put some Guinea fowl eggs in my incubator. Out of the maybe 14 eggs, only five appeared fertile. Well skip to when we put them into lockdown, I was doing my final day candle, when I noticed 2 pips! I quickly put the eggs back in the incubator and closed it. The next day I needed to wake up at 5:30 for work, when I heard peeping. I was already at the incubator looking at a huge pip area, when I saw a tiny white shape move. Oh my God, the keet was so cute. It came up to me and I noticed the egg with the big pip area needed my help getting out. I opened the incubator and took it out, got my sterile water and tweezers, and started peeling back at the shell. Once I was proud of my work, I put the egg back in the incubator. I got ready for work, and came to the incubator again to see that the keet was almost out. I watched for a few minutes and it got out! I noticed a yolk sack on its butt though... I got back from work and needed to clear up another egg because the keet was upside down, wanting help. The next day, I needed to actually help the keet out of the shell. Once I peeled back enough to make it so that it could get its head out, I put it in the incubator. 2 seconds later it was out. It had a yolk sack on still, couldn't stand, its neck was bent permanently to its body. When I got home from work, the second one ( the first yolk sack baby) had passed, so I wrapped it up in paper towels and threw it in the garbage. The one with the bent neck was still awful looking. But on the plus side, the other two eggs had hatched. Such cute little keets! We at that point had four, one suffering, the others healthy. I gently grabbed the bent neck keet and brought it outside and needed it shovel its neck ( with a sharp one so that there was no more suffering). I am not happy that I needed to euthanize the keet, but it's better than it suffering. The three healthy keets are now in the brooder, under a heat bar at the moment!
