Good Morning Everyone! I wanted to get some advice on hatching and selling chicks or selling fertilized eggs. I have been raising chickens for 2 years now and wanted to try something new. This where i have questions on the steps to selling them? Do i need any certification to do this in the state of Indiana? Tips on how to get the word out on selling? Do i sell chicks or fertilized eggs or both? I have never hatched chicken eggs before so any advice and any tips and advice is welcome?! Thank you in advance :)

If you want to ship outside of the state, you need at least NPIP certification. You might need others in your state. Pure eggs and chicks will almost always sell better than mutts unless there's something different about them that makes them stand out (sexlink, olive eggs, black skin, Frizzle or silkied feathers, ect.)

I'm unsure of the laws in your area however, I would not sell chicks, just hatching eggs.
Depending on what breeds you have, they're could be a lot of interest or 0 interest.
If youve never hatched before, (even if you've been hatching for years) I don't recommend doing it for business, plus with chicks, you have to have a plan for the chicks you don't sell. Freezer, usually.
How many hens do you have? can you guarantee that the you'll have a incubators worth of eggs (about 2 dozen) in less than 3-4 days for freshness? if you have that many hens, how many roosters to have at least 85% fertility ? 85% is the average number for selling 'fertile' eggs.

Here's another question lol if you have black copper maran rooster and a different hen like a easter egger will the chick be what the hen is or the rooster?

Have you sold chicks or fertilized eggs? I have about 40 hens lol i so do chicken math LOL

Ok. If my rooster and my black copper maran hen have a chick then it will be a black copper maran?
You need two copper marans for the chick to be a copper marans.

Anything that isnt pure is a mix or a mutt. Some have things about them that people like, others are just mutts.

But they need to be decent birds that do the breed justice too. Breeding poorly breeds won't do anyone a service
