Over there
A while ago, I got a nesting box for my 4 budgies. Nothing really happened until now, but Jalapeno won't come out of the box now and quacks like a duck when I change their food.

I think she is sitting on eggs, but how can I tell? I'm new to this, and don't know much. I know that the alpha bird, Harry, is the one mating with her, so I moved the other two to a different cage. Any help would be appreciated!!

Update: At least 3 confirmed eggs!! I was away for the weekend, so I have no clue how long they've been in there. There is cuttlebone, toys, and plenty of perches!!

You don't say if you have anything in nest box. I put ground corn cob in mine. The hen should start sitting right away and the babies will hatch as laid and very big difference in size as they almost double in growth daily. Hen rotates eggs like a chicken and male will feed female at opening of nest box. Go to library or online for more info Good Luck

Budgies don't build a nest. They choose a cavity, typically within a tree, and perhaps chew a little of the wood which falls down to the bottom. They don't carry nesting material, so if you want shavings in the nest, you have to put them there yourself.

Keep us posted!

Baby budgies are fun! Make sure mama and daddy have plenty of good, high quality protein available for feeding chicks. I always fed lightly soaked Zupreem monkey biscuits , but you can give moistened Gerber High Pro baby cereal if they'll eat that. Seeds alone won't be adequate. If they are seed addicts, you may need to do some hand-feeding with a good psitticine hand-feeding formula like Embrace or Kaytee .

Thawed frozen corn on a cottage cheese type lid placed on the bottom of the cage works well too. Budgies are ground feeders in their natural state and they will eat the very center of the corn kernel out and feed the pulp to their babies. Good energy source I would also offer spray millet or sprouted seeds if they don't already eat pellets.

Baby budgies are wonderful. I look forward to updates!

Also: don't mess with them. Unless you've hand fed baby budgies before - please don't try it unless someone with handeeding experience is there to walk you through it. I've done it numerous and it is not easy. Let Mom and Dad do what nature intended.
