Hatching Cornish X

I wanted to add - someone, I forget who, did keep and hatch some eggs from a few cornish cross meaties last summer. They were disappointed in the birds and kept them hidden from sight as they were mostly bald and different colors - not white. There was a photo of a few of them and they were not all attractive in any way. I do not know how they turned out as table meat.

Also kstaven crossed out some chickens for his own broiler stock and he noted that all of them were tough and inedible and the entire 100 bird lot went to dog food.

I'd love to see that thread. You don't happen to know how to hunt it down, do you? Any of the words in the title to narrow down what one it was?

I'm not crossing CR x CR. The rooster was just too large and I figured someone was bound to break a leg sooner or later. I'm trying a CR x Orpington cross right now. The hens are laying and so far the bullseye has been on every egg we've cracked open.

Once we catch the eggs before they freeze then we'll be putting some in the incubator. I'm really interested to see what happens. So much so that I'm considering ordering a few Cornish Rock chicks to arrive at the same time the eggs hatch to see what differences there are in growth, feathering and personality.

Also, I agree with everyone else. They _will_ eat you out of house and home. I'm "starving" my CR hens by making them free range for most of their food (we scatter scratch grain around the barn and make them hunt it out). Most of my birds came from Tyson. I have no idea what strain of CR Tyson uses.

You can raise then and hatch eggs. You must limit the feed intake very carefuly or they will get to heavy.. They should be very similaie to the hatchery stock.
