Hatching duck eggs, Pekin fertility

They most likely need a bigger water tub. Pekins are bigger ducks. A kiddie pool worked for mine. Now they have a big 150 gallon tub we buried in the ground. I hatched pekin ducklings under the mom up until they start pushing out of the shell and take them inside under a lamp with a temp gauge reading at 99 or so and keep the shell damp until they are out.

This one decided she was coming out on our truck ride to the house from a old property we were moving from she was very spunky after she dried and fluffed up.View attachment 1258991
Amazing. I am always awed by the life God has given. I have Quail hatching this morning. I almost gave up on 'em. Good thing my wife has more patients then I do. 16 to 18 days for Quail. Today was 25 days. The 1st pic was our surprise that we woke up to. The second pic is the second chick hatching.

SO CUTE!! I can’t wait to hatch my own ducklings!! And yeah they will have a little kiddie pool soon, I know they would love and prefer that. Just hard in their isolation pen Rn so they have what I can fit in there that still provides them water and a way to bathe. Do Pekin drakes have fertility issues? Due to size?

I wondered the same about my drake. He is a blue swedish, my only female laying at the time is my lame pekin. I attempted one batch and no luck, I cracked a couple others and some people couldnt tell is fertile or not, so it was suggested to put them in. I put 11 in incubator, 3 have signs of life. So you never know.

Yay!! I’m glad you’re getting some. I hope this time it works out for me too!! :fl

I gave a female cayuga and male piken eggs that I am currently trying to hatch. Im on day 9 and the air sacs are getting bigger every day. Dark orange in color but no red blood lines. Are the shells thicker or harder to see being the breed? I see them getting busy all the time. Dont want to give up. I have had a couple quitters that I have discarded.

I've seen my young Ancona drake mounting one of my Pekin females so since eggs have started arriving again finally. I am prepping the incubator to see if anyone hatch's.
