Hatching eggs Welsummer Bantams from Show winners

Remember all "dark egg breeds" LF were dark egg layers until some breeders wanted a bantam sized Welsummer, Barnvelders and Marans, so an outcross was needed many chicken generations ago.

The Barnvelder Bantam lay brown tint eggs but they have the same pattern as the LF Barnvelders.

This is fairly new breed and extremely rare in the US. Some of the breeders in UK are working or already got the darker eggs in color going on. So it is up to us to make it work by crossing the darkest of eggs and work on the lighter egg colors with the darkest egg cockeral if you have pullets that lays very light brown eggs. As I was surfing the Ebay Welsummer Bantam eggs, they are colored very much like ours.

The show exhibition Barred Rock Bantams are the same way, I have gotten some light brown eggs and they do not have the dark egg trait like the bigger ones.

I am going to try to raise some Welsummer Bantam cockeral with my Welsummer LF girls to get some medium sized pullets, selecting only the darkest eggs and breed down. That is the only thing I know it would work but would be severl generations away from my goal of getting darker eggs.

Neverthanless, they are beautiful birds! Their temperment and disposition are just like LF Welsummer girls.

Thank you, I appreciate how nicely you explained that to me. I think you have a good idea putting them in with your LF and then breed down.
I had no idea that Bantam Barred Rocks laid a dark egg, very interesting.

The Barred Rock Bantams do NOT lay dark brown eggs like their larger cousins do. They lay light tint or light brown.

$7.50 an egg may be expensive but it is his call to charge an egg or customers can move on. For me, since it is a new breed tht needs worked on, I would not have charge that much. My flock is only two months old. Here are the pics of them:

i think the OP's prices r more than reasonable for the quality of stock they r useing and they r imported lines that come with Copies of prizes won and disease-free certificate. egg color can always be worked on later and price is totally up to the seller what they want to ask for it.

the birds r gorgous!!! if i had the money at the moment i would snag them in a heartbeat!
