Hi, I am new to chicken raising. My 1 y’o Buff Orpington is brooding so I am letting her have some eggs. She is sitting on 6 eggs. The first two are from June 13, one from June 15 and the other 3 not sure but all within 5 days of the first eggs. I have checked all the eggs and they all have developing chicks in them. My question is if the first two hatch this weekend as expected will the hen continue to sit on the eggs until the other eggs hatch? Should I place the other eggs into an incubator after the first eggs hatch or wait to see if Mama hen continues to sit. If I hatch the other chicks via the incubator can I place them with Mzma hen after they hatch or do I need to raise them separate using a heat lamp. Right now the hen and eggs are in the coop in the nesting box. I am planning on moving Mam and the eggs to a new ground level location this weekend. Any suggestions are welcome.

I will not explain my experience but I have dealt with this and the best luck I had was once she has hatched the first ones, pull the eggs and put them in the incubator (its for sure, the hen is iffy). the other depends on the age difference. You should keep the ones you hatch in the incubator seperate, until they are able to eat and drink on their own (like 3 days) and as long as the other baby chicks are within about a week (say a week older) you should be ok. just put them together and watch them, they should be ok. If they are not ok you will see it right away. Good luck, I have had success doing this.

I will add, I just reread your question. Your eggs are so close in age, it may be beneficial to just leave them with the hen since you are only talking, I think you said 2 days and the hen will still be sitting on them if they are that close. If you think it might be 5 days to a week, I would probably put them in the incubator.
