I have hen that just hatched one chick yesterday. When I checked on them this evening She had moved to a corner of the coop and is no longer sitting. She was sitting on 20 eggs. One of my other hens continued to lay in that nesting box. Now they're cold. I checked a couple of the eggs and they had a formed chick close to hatching. She had discarded an egg that a chick had halfway hatched this morning. I put 8 of the eggs in the incubater. Is there any chance anymore will hatch?

Do you have a candling light? Or even a dark room with a flashlight, make a close fist, holding the egg, it should be pretty clear which one are still hatching, you should see vessels, dark masses. Sort them out, set them in the incubator and the "good ones" should hatch pretty quickly. I don't think a day or so of no heat should affect too much.

I had a hen the same way, as soon as one hatched she would move on.... but she had been pancaked for over 3 weeks... lost a lot of weight...
