i have rhode island red eggs - they are about 23 days - they have not hatched does this mean they are dead or can it take longer than 21 days. the temp has been around 90-99 degrees i candled them and can not tell if they are moving now.

Please don't rely on my answer, but I think it can take a little longer than 21 days. Plus if the egg is full of chick, they won't move around but a little bit - there's just not enough room anymore

Good luck with the eggs and hopefully someone will give you more specific info!

thanks for the advice -- i am going to keep a close eye on them and see what happens.

Hi,

Yes, it can take longer than 21 days - especially if the Temp was lower than 99 degrees.

However, if your temp was truly fluctuating between 90 and 99 degrees, I doubt you are going to get any hatch. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news but the closer you can keep it to 99.9 degrees on a regular steady basis - the better.

If they haven't hatched by now, I'd take them out and candle them. If they aren't at least peeping, they probably aren't going to make it.

Best Wishes though.

God Bless,
