Hatching golfballs?!!?

So, I read on BYC to put golfballs in the nest boxes to help the girls figure out what the boxes are for.I figured it couldn't hurt, so I put two golfballs in one box.

My girls are just starting to lay, and today we found one sitting in the nestbox. This would be her first egg, so we were pretty excited. She just kept sitting and sitting and sitting. So, I finally went to check on her. She was sitting on an egg and two golfballs. She even rolled one of the golfballs closer to her. Did she actually think these were eggs?

We all got a pretty good laugh over it.

At least you don't have a pack rat stealing your golfballs! I've got some hens I moved and they started laying on the floor instead of their new nest boxes.....I put a couple of golf balls in each nest to remind them where they're supposed to lay....a pack rat has stolen several so far.
