Hi All,
Just hatched my first group in 2 years. 4 chicks hatched but of the 4, 2 died before everyone was dry. The 1 death did not surprise me. Chick was malpositioned and had trouble hatching but did make it out without help. The surprise was the first chick to hatch. She hatched and was mostly dry when I got up in the morning so she must have hatched overnight. I left her in the bator because I had external pips on the other 3 and did not want to shrink wrap my babies. I figured they would all be dry and ready for the brooder when I got home from work at 12:30 this morning. They were all dry but with 2 deceased including the first one to hatch. Could they have been too hot in the bator?. It was still at hatching temp and she was in there for quite a while. It's one of those mysteries and that was the only thing I could think of that might have led to her demise that I could control.
Thanks
Alice
