Firstly, hope I'm posting in the right place... I saw there was a hatching thread in the chicken section... but these are ducks :D

First time hatching, we have 7 out of 11 pipped so far, mostly last night and today. But one guy pipped 48 hours ago, made a hole and we could see movement but since last night hasnt progressed at all. No movement now.

Everything we've read says be patient, but this just seems to have stopped and we dont want to fail to act if needed.

If we do act, what do we do? I'm aware we may risk the other eggs if we go in. Do we need to mist them if we do?

Help would be very appreciated!! Thank you x

Following as I'm having issues too! Been told by friends that very rarely they have to help a duck by opening a hole with a pin and then gently opening it further with a pin head. Then, possibly helping the duck get it's head out but then leaving it at that. Especially as the duck has to absorb all the yolk into itself before hatching completely.

I'd be very worried doing the above, apart from anything else, I've been told numerous times the humidity is very important. So how do you do all that without taking the egg out!

Hope you get some answers. I posted my query on the chicken bit before I found this duck thread!

Nic.

What's the humidity in your incubator?

If it were mine, I'd grab a pair of sterilized tweezers and very gently peel the shell surrounding the hole to about the size of a dime, no bigger. If you see any veins stop, if you break a vein on accident apply firm pressure to it with corn starch or styptic powder.

I open many times during lockdown with no problems, just keep the humidity high after you open it. if you're having a hard time maintaining a high humidity )75%) add a damp cloth or sponge, not touching the eggs.
