Ok, I bought 4 dozen Rhode Island Red eggs, took them home, placed them on a shelf for 24 hours in my basement and the temp is a steady 65 down there. Anyway, yesterday was day 11, and I have a bouncing baby RIR. Go figure.

That is one early bird!

Where did you get the eggs from? Shame, some broody got robbed.

Yep, it definitely sounds like a broody got robbed. Glad you were given the eggs to incubate, and not to eat. That would've been an unpleasant surprise.

Weird thing was, the eggs were collected daily and perhaps mixed with others that had been collected from previous days. Then I took them home and set them on a shelf in my basement, where its always 65 degrees, I didnt incubate until the next evening, a good 24 hours later. One lucky chick I suppose. I noticed when I candeled on day 7 that 1 egg seemed very dark inside, but didn't give much thought. Oh well, she will have to wait on her brothers and sisters for 10 more days. The wife named her Miracle.

I may end up with the same issue. not sure what day. But I have one egg that on day 5 i candled and it looked like it was on day 11 or 12. Day 8 I checked it and it is dark inside, good air sac, Movement... I know that mine are from nests. A friend brought them over when he found the nests. I wish I had a second incubator though, he offered 50 more eggs.

I know what you mean on the second incubator. I will have to pick one up this week. My 2 oldest boys picked up 2 dozen turkey eggs today and will have to incubate by the weekend. My chicken hatch isnt due until the 8th, so I guess I will break down and buy another incubator. Oh well. We plan on making a cabinet style bator so we can hatch different dates.
