Hatching Peacocks in The Spring?

Hi, I have hatched ducks before, and I would really like too hatch some peacocks in the springtime. So I have the Mini Advanced Brinsea incubator. Would that be big enough for a few peacock eggs? I also need someone trustable to buy the fertile eggs from..Any suggestions? They can be shipped, or not..Doesnt matter. I am in New Hampshire.

This is my suggestion- and I am no expert... I have hatched hundreds of chicken eggs- but last summer we tried to hatch a bunch of peafowl eggs from a bunch of different places... None hatched, and the eggs cost nearly as much as chicks. This spring I bought adult peafowl and yearlings. Obviously I might have been the problem but it was really disappointing to spend so much on eggs and hatch none. If I had it yo do over again I'd have bought peachicks the first year. Like I said, I am hardly an expert though. I will try and hatch my own eggs this year to see if I can fair better.

Yes a lot of people say shipped peafowl eggs are very hard to hatch. I had some eggs shipped to me for free from a kind member on here, one time, but none even developed. It would be better if you could find eggs close by or find peachicks. Also one other thing to remember is that the peacock does not get his beautiful train until he is three years old. I could not wait that long at all so for my first peafowl I got an adult pair. Sure they might not be as tame as they would be if you raised them but you can always raise up their chicks to be tame. That is just my sugestion. When my only male peacock ran away (this is when I used to free-range) I replaced him with a yearling male and I just couldn't stand not having a colorful adult peacock so I ended up getting a pied boy.

If you do go for the eggs or chicks, you might want to try getting an assortment. Those always looked pretty fun to me because you can get a bunch of varieties.

My peachicks hatched 2 days ago and i am so happy. I have been trying for years but never had hatchlings so its my first chicks ever. But i can't distinguish male and female. Any idea how can i determine gender?

It is hard to determine their gender when they are little like that. You need to wait a while before you can sex them. The males will keep the barring on their wings and the females will start to lose that when they get bigger but you should be able to sex them before they are yearlings. I think when they get a crest of a decent size the males will have more of a colored crest (hints of blue or green shine on the young brown crest feathers) and the peahens will not have that. That is my guess. Sometimes one day you will think you have a peacock and the next you will think you have a peahen. It is a guessing game until you know for sure. Males and females display so if you see one displaying that doesn't always mean it is a male. I had three white peachicks (whites are sooo hard to sex) and two of them would always display at each other and then bounce around almost like play fighting. I thought both were males but once they got older I could tell that only one was a male and the other two were females.

Thanks for the advice I think I may get some eggs from a local person if I can find one, or simply buy some as babies.
