Hatching Pekin duck eggs - goo?

Thanks. I just checked before going to bed and this is what I found: the pipped egg with the little bill sticking out of it is in the very same spot. I turned the incubator to get a better look and the egg moved off its "goo" base. It is a yellowish color goo. The bill is dry. The otherwise purely white eggshell has pronounced darker area around the pip hole, that extends about 1/2" around it. It looks to me like it is damp inside the egg. Normal? Don't know! I am so worried that the little guy died. I won't intervene tho. I've seen all sorts of horror stories about intervening and lots of counsel to just be patient. So I'll be patient. The other egg has no pip and is busy, busy, busy rocking itself around.

So I turned the pipped egg so the hold wasn’t toward the bottom and went to bed last night. Same position today. No rocking etc. I think the hole looks a bit bigger today but that would be wishful thinking. Still has the bill poking thru but no movement and no more liquid. Other egg has gone quiet. This is so hard. At 3pm today we pass into day 28.

Hi

Anyone out there that can help me tonight? I still have my first pipped duck in the same state - no further progress since yesterday - see photo in last post. No movement. Bill sticking through hole, no hole progress. I just saw a little more brown goo come out of the hole about 1/2 hr ago. Other egg is going great guns - lots of pip action - cracks galore! My concern is this right now: if the bird who pipped yesterday and has since gone quiet for the past 30 hours or so is dead, should I take him out of the incubator to protect the other egg? Is this egg discharge a hint that it is dead? I don't want the egg to explode. Oh, my nerves.

Start opening up in just the air cell. Open until you see know if it's alive or gone. Then post back.

Thanks for your help!! Ok. How will I know if it is alive or dead? Will it be obvious? In the last 15 min the other egg has pipped and making very quick progress. Should I open the incubator to test the other egg while there is so much activity at the other egg?

Ok so I took it out of the incubator. I tried taking some of the shell away from around the hole but the membrane was like glue around the bill. I tried tapping the bill and no response. I think it’s dead.

Aw, I'm sorry. Check the other. See if there's blood veins. If there are rub some coconut oil on the membrane. Sorry I wasn't on earlier.
