I'm hatching 5 polish chicks. I'm not new at all to hatching but Mareks is new. I've never had it in my flock and read about on the Internet and found out how dangerous it is. They are all under a broody hen. So are there other vaccines I can get? How long do I separate the chicks from there mom after the vaccines.

I'm going to put my ten cents worth of opinion in here, I have had birds with Mareks, some from a private breeder, some from tractor supply, we culled them as soon as they showed symptoms, I do not vaccinate, I read up about it, I got all worried, I have never had another one again, maybe it's in my flock, don't know, I raise chicks, my chickens raise chicks, I personally no longer worry about it, haven't had another case since.

Hm. I just don't want it in my prize flock. This is 300-400 generations worth of chickens. All came from the first of its kind. Their bloodline is pure from the first of its breed. I don't them dying..

Hopefully someone more familiar with the disease will add more, I assume you got the eggs from someone else, and are all of yours vaccinated. Still personally don't know much about it, prefer to keep it that way.

All my eggs are from my chickens I've never bought a chicken from anyone. They are my families chickens. All gotten way back then from each breeds original creators.

How many.. Oh god hmmm. Maybe 800 or more. I have Ancona. I do have all the colors possible for every breed I have. They all have their color pure in their genes. I can't name all the breeds but I do know I have all of them and most hybrids.

As far as I know, you just vaccinate them at one day old if you choose. I don't think there are other vaccines besides Marecks and I haven't read anything about separating them from the mother because of a vaccine.
Do you have a local feed store? They are usually pretty knowledgeable about that type of stuff.
