Quail grow so fast that by the time the last hatch the first ones will be a lot bigger and can out-compete them at the food and water stations and can pick on the smaller ones. It's easier to raise them when they are all one age.
True. Of course, that depends a lot on how many you have. The first two quail that I hatched were 5 days apart, but by the second day you could barely tell the difference between them. The last batch of 7 that hatched were born within hours of each other, but the youngest ones are still about half the size of the oldest one, I guess just because of that slight head start. Mine don't pick on each other, though, not after the first day or two. Interestingly, I put the eggs in all on different days, but they all decided to hatch on the same day. I wonder if hearing the others hatched just triggered something in them...
Ive had a good hatch now... i lost count of how many hatched... ive had 10 to 14 hatch everyday for the last week... i got plenty future kabobs to grow out!!
