A friend of mine is hatching some eggs. This evening is the end of day 21. She has had one hatch, and there is another one who pipped on day 20 and has been trying to hatch since this morning. My friend said that this chick has some liquid gurgling out of her nostrils/mouth, and the inside of the egg is very wet. She used the dry incubation method. The chick is still alive. What should she do about the chick? Should she take it out of the incubator? Was the humidity too high? Is the chick drowning? I have hatched eggs before, but do not feel qualified to answer this question. Any advice would be appreciated. Thx :)

It does sound as though that particular egg did not loose enough moisture. I would start an assisted hatch and at least expand the pip hole make sure his beak is clear and breathing air. If the veining has absorbed/receeded, I would see the hatch through, if not I would do as much as I could then make sure membranes are moist and replace until more veining is receeded and do a bit more. There's an awesome thread: https://www.backyardchickens.com/a/step-by-step-guide-to-assisted-hatching to help if she needs it.

If she did a dry incubation, then I would say that egg was less porous/thicker shelled and just did not loose the moisture the rest did, unless she's in a humid area and dry was still too humid-which can happen.
