does the hen that is going to set stay in the nest and the other hens come and lay eggs next to her and she collects all the eggs to set on or does she lay an egg a day for say 12 days then set for 21 days

She will lay until she's satisfied or lay and take other hens eggs until she's satisfied. Then she'll set for 21 days.
