Hatching rates for mailed eggs

I've only gotten shipped eggs 3 times.. hatched 7/8 the first time. Have 4/8 in the incubater now due to hatch on Sat. And just set 8 more with 6 developing.
Don't know if that helps or not. But good luck.

I have never had good rates at all. The most I got was 5 of 18 eggs. Another time I had 18 FBCM got one. Another 12 FBCM got one. If you are hatching FBCM for the first time read alot they are hard to hatch. The only time it worked for me was when I let my girl hatch her own. She had just started laying and went broody Out of 5 eggs I got 3 chicks. It hasn't discourage me though. I will try to hatch more of her eggs when she starts laying again after molt. Good luck Michele

i ordered eggs from florida and they were packaged nice i thought... they were wrapped in napkins and in a carton and the carton was packed in newspaper. however the WONDERFUL mail lady i have threw them from her car on to my porch and i fully believe that is why it is now day 24 or 25 and i have NO chicks out of 6 eggs(none were cracked i just think she was too rough)......i did everything i was supposed to and still no chicks, i have given up on them BUT im looking around for local eggs to try next time. i probably wont be buying anymore eggs the have to be shipped far.

i have also purchased a bigger bator for this time around and next pay check will include heat lamps, dimmers and an egg turner

I admit it. I'm and ebay hatcher most of the time. I hatch anywhere from 25% to 85% on hatched eggs. I often combine eggs shipped from 2 sources in each hatch. And I have seen VASTLY different hatch rates between the shipments even when they are hatched in the same incubator. Last hatch 4/8 from one shipment and 12/14 from the other. They were both packaged excellently. The 14 eggs with the better hatch rate came from all the way across the country. I agree with the comments above about shipment handling. But there is really no way to tell until you try to hatch them. I would advise combining shipped eggs from 2 sources, or adding in some local eggs as a control. (This is my first hatch with my own eggs for control. 6/6 developing well at this point compared to 10/12 for the shipped eggs.) This way if you only have room for 25, your odds are better that one mail handler with poor coordination won't spoil your whole hatch.

Good Luck!

I just had 16 eggs shipped in from Alabama in the dead of winter, so needless to say I was skeptical. I just candled after day 7 and to my surprise 13 of 16 are developing well. I had two non-fertile, and one dead embryo. So realistically I feel the breeder has done all they can do, the rest is up to me.

your 'shrink wrap' is not from a quick peek in the 'bator, I open my 'bator all the time at all stages of hatching, I've never had a 'shrink wrap' chick

My average hatch rates for received shipped eggs is probably 70%. I usually get pretty lucky.

In fact the worst hatch rate I ever got was from eggs I drove to pick up.

my first batch of shipped eggs none hatched 2nd 3 out of 7 I have 9 in now so I am hoping for the best. and I have more eggs coming. I got 2 dozen from a local man that out of 24 22 hatched. Of my eggs usually most hatch.

0-75% I have amazing fertlity rates on th4e shipped eggs-but not so great hatching rates! It's the name of the game-well worth it for the most part-just be preparred to lose $ we've all been through it.
