I have quite a few eggs that were shipped to me, that the air cells are broken but the embryos are fine. How should I go about hatching them? In an egg carton or on their side? Does it matter?

Thanks

Just to be safe I'd incubate them upright to keep the air cell in the fat end. Good luck, none of my eggs with damaged air sacs ever developed.

Let the eggs sit for 12 hours minimum first, if the air cells are still broken after that, I wouldn't look forward to chicks hatching from those eggs. The wait beforehand is specifically for situations like this - to let the air cell settle back in place again. If you're already incubating them and indeed the embryos are fine, you should be fine. I always prefer the carton method though. Otherwise you'll get chick pinball in there, or worse. . . I've had some very sticky situations with eggs hatching on their sides before.

Yes the eggs are about to hatch in 4 days. What type of carton should I use?

Whatever type. I use the ol' fashioned cardboard/paper type, and tear off the top.
